How to edit the video and audio recording Hopefully this helps others who are challenged by this very frustrating issue with SnagIt, and perhaps Techsmith will do better in the future to provide adequate tech support for their expensive products rather than relying on us consumers to assist one another.

  • Change desktop resolution back to your preferred setting.
  • Repeat steps 10 through 12 with SnagitEditor.exe.
  • With Snagit.exe selected in Step 1, change Step 2 from "Global Default" to "Integrated Graphics".
  • Under Global Settings change "Integrated Graphics" to "High Performance NVIDIA Processor".
  • Tested Snagit and it was now recording video.
  • Under Global Settings, change "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" to "Integrated Graphics".
  • Open NVIDIA Control Panel from the System Tray.
  • I'm including steps that I later undid, just in case they had any impact on the resolution (they add about 15-20 seconds overall if you have a relatively fast computer) Below is how I fixed the issue on my computer.     The Registry edit didn't help, downscaling my resolution to 1080p with no scaling didn't help. I was having this problem, and none of the documented fixes were working. Close the Registry Editor, and open Snagit. Right-click the AllowHwVideoEncoding item on the right and select Modify. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\Features\snagitĦ. Type the following and click OK: regeditĤ. Press Windows+R on your keyboard to open the Run window.ģ. Confirm that they are not running in Task Manager.Ģ. Then do the following:ġ) Press the windows key + R on your keyboard and type "regedit" and press enterĢ) Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TechSmith\SnagIt and delete the "SnagIt" folder.ģ) Try restarting Snagit and see what happens Go to Processes tab for any instances of the following:Ĭlick on them and click End Process to close the item.
